Building Healthy Community -- towards the Cultivation of Human Freedom

with Lisa Romero

Our patterns of thinking, our feelings and our will impulses are directly influenced by the community in which we grow. The foundations of both inner freedom and unfreedom are laid down through the course of childhood. With the rise of technology permeating extensively our outer lives, we are now being faced with its effects on our inner lives and its artificial influence over the development of thinking, feeling and will impulses. Technology is forming our community’s future and in doing so extending its persuasive influence into the inner capacities of its members.

We can choose to be ready as individuals, as parents, and as a collective community, with capacities—with the necessary inner strengths—to freely choose the way of life we determine to be supportive of the progression of humanity. We need to establish communities that are dedicated to human freedom; communities in which community health, child development and education, and social life are imbued with impulses supportive of the cultivation of individual freedom.

This course provides the anthroposophical understanding of being more than male and female and how to express the evolving and developing pictures of gender and sexuality to students in primary and secondary school. It will also include the common struggles that are experienced during childhood, adolescence and into adulthood. Supporting this aspect of the health and wellbeing of the individual child’s relationship to gender and sexuality results in greater resilience and confidence in their growing relationship to the wider community.

Evolving Consciousness, Gender and Sexuality

A community talk by Lisa Romero at Anthroposophy NYC

“Without sense-born love, nothing material would exist in the world; without spiritual love, nothing spiritual can arise in evolution.” – Rudolf Steiner

The human being has the possibility of continually evolving in consciousness. We will look at the stage of development we are at now, where we have been and where we are headed. When working out of anthroposophy we are asked not to judge the other by sex. Only through deep understanding of the un-freedom of one's sex can we contribute to the education and development of others in freedom.
